Get Down on Your Kids Level
Recently I was interviewed by Chris Blair of Remarkable Fathers about how, as men, we can literally get down on the level of our kids so they can experience our love on their level. I gave him examples of how men’s groups had transformed men’s relationships with their kids.
Mostly, fathers stopped trying and just started being with their kids. So often the men would come back to the group to tell us about their simple experiences of being with their kids and how beautiful it was. Each time their stories would bring tears to all of our eyes.
Not only did we hear a story of a father connecting to a son, we heard a story of a son or daughter connecting to their father. We all remember how as kid we didn’t get that. We might have known our fathers loved us – but we didn’t get this experience to feed our souls.
As a parent, do you get down with your kids? As an adult, did your parents relate to you this way? What are your thoughts?
