White Men – Our Days of Acting Entitled are Numbered
Bill Maher the host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” wrote a post on Huffington Report about how Brett Favre’s texting of an image of his penis to an un-wanting woman is the epitome of white male arrogance. Typical of Maher’s rants, it is raunchy, funny and sadly true.
As a friend of mine, Moshe Rozdzial, Ph.D. champions, we as white men don’t know how privileged we are – because we always have been. We also don’t realize the full impact our behavior has on others, particularly those who aren’t white men.
Growing up for some of us starts with the realization that there is a world outside our white man world. Another friend of mine, Michael Welp, Ph.D. , will attest that there are huge advantages to changing our limited prospective. Michael has created a successful business assisting Fortune 50 companies leave the white-man culture. They do it not because it is the right thing to do; they do it because it makes them more money.
Bill Maher picking on Brett Favre is funny because it’s true. I hope Brett’s misstep helps wake up other white men.
