Kelly Morris turned my on to this Nick Vujicic video. A while ago I had seen another of Nick’s video. What moved me about this one was seeing how the teenagers were impacted.
Something happens when a man without legs and arms tells you that life is a precious gift. As stressed teenagers who feel there is no hope hearing from most adults that there is hope pisses them off – when Nick speaks they are affixed to his every word.
We all too quickly forget what it was like to be a teenager. When I get them for clients and see how tense they are it reminds me how tense I was, how everything was stressful, how I had moments of despair.
Our future lies with these young men and women – so does my compassion. I too want to tell them it will be alright, even though I know that is not what is needed. What is needed is for me to listen, for me to be with them, maybe for me to reveal my no arms and legs.
