Sociology professor Michael Kimmel speaks about being a man on Dad’s Unplugged. His solution is that we need a strong dose of being an entrepreneur, his ‘self made man’. Kimmel claims our current recession is so tough because traditional male industries are leaving. He goes on to suggest that our traditional model of being a man needs to leave.
Kimmel speaks passionately about how media reinforces the old masculinity and is “selling back to us what we have just lost.” He also believes that as more sharing and equality occurs in relationships, the happier we are – along with our wives and kids and there’s a bonus, we get more sex.
