Should an employee be required to attend a ‘growth development training’? A lawyer is suing his boss for supposedly requiring him to attend the New Warrior Training put on by the Mankind Project.
I say no. When I did corporate trainings, I only wanted people there who wanted to be there. But in the real world people, if only indirectly, are often required to attend growth related trainings. When the training is growth related and not on site there should be no coercion – either direct or indirect. Any training can push you, but a training with the purpose of pushing you should be optional.
I have done the New Warrior Training. It is a great training. I have sent over 30 men to it. They will say the same thing – they don’t want anyone there that doesn’t want to be there for themselves.
If there is a problem, it is not with any of these kinds of training no matter how good or bad they may be. The problem would be with an employer forcing some to attend.
